THE SPEAKER OF THE MAZHILIS RECEIVED THE AMBASSADOR SAUDI ARABIA

Astana, June 4, the House of the Mazhilis. Chairman of the Mazhilis Kabibulla Dzhakupov received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Kazakhstan Gourmot ben Saeed Al Malhan.

The two sides discussed a wide range of issues on bilateral cooperation, focusing on the development of trade and economic, inter-parliamentary cooperation. Agriculture, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas sector are identified as promising areas.

The speaker of the Mazhilis spoke about the favorable investment climate created in Kazakhstan and stressed the interest of our country in high-tech attracting. At that K.Dzhakupov expressed confidence that Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia have great potential for economic cooperation.

Chairman of the Mazhilis focused the diplomat’s attention on five institutional reforms of the President of Kazakhstan, stressing that the current Parliament is busy in the legal framework preparation for their implementation. According to K.Dzhakupov, the Parliament will take about 100 acts and laws.

Kabibulla Dzhakupov thanked Saudi Arabia for its support of major international initiatives of our country - the Congress of World and Traditional Religions, the application for non-permanent UN Security Council members for the years of 2017-18, the International Exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana.

Chairman of the Mazhilis also expressed his opinion about the ratification process accelerating of the Charter of the Islamic Organization on Food Security, initiated by Kazakhstan.

 Gourmot bin Saeed Al Malhan, in turn, spoke about the reforms carried out in Saudi Arabia, among the achievements of which is the creation of human rights center, the possibility for women to be elected to the Parliament of the Kingdom, as well as an increase in the number of students studying abroad.

According to the speakers, the intensification of the Kazakh-Saudi inter-parliamentary cooperation will make a great contribution to the expansion of bilateral relations.
