THE SPEAKERS OF THE MAZHLIS OF KAZAKHSTAN AND THE MEDJILIS OF TURKMENISTAN DISCUSS THE INTER-PARLIAMENTARY COOPERATION

Astana, December 12, the House of the Mazhilis. As part of participation in the events dedicated to the 20^th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality, the Speaker of the Mazhilis Kabibulla Dzhakupov met in Ashgabat with the Chairman of the Medjilis Akdja Nurberdieva. The two sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, stressing that the relations strengthening is promoted by mutual meetings and visits of the heads of the two states. It was also noted that the implementation of the agreements reached will enable the Kazakh-Turkmen cooperation to a qualitatively new level. A. Nurberdieva told about the Turkmen Neutrality model based on peace, non-interference in the affairs of other states. Noting the Turkmenistan’s adherence to the principles of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in the world, K. Dzhakupov congratulated with the country’s accession in September this year at the IAEA. The interlocutors also touched upon the economic and trade cooperation, focusing on transit-transport potential of the two states. According to the parliamentarians, the stimulus for sustained growth of the economies is for example, the railroad “Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan – Iran”. The large-scale projects such as the highway “Western Europe - Western China”, the pipeline “Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan – India” will be of great importance for the region. K. Dzhakupov and A. Nurberdieva, shared their experience of legislative work of parliamentarians of the two countries, spoke about the further expansion of inter-parliamentary relations. In order to develop the inter-parliamentary dialogue the Speaker of the Mazhilis invited his Turkmen counterpart to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan.
