Astana, June 15. House of Mazhilis. Today, the Speaker of the Chamber Nurlan Nigmatulin negotiated with Christine Muttonen, the Chairman of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, at the Mazhilis.

                N. Nigmatulin noted that the visit of the parliamentary delegation of the OSCE PA is taking place on the 25th anniversary of our country's accession to the OSCE as a full member, and also in the historical period for our country - holding of EXPO in Astana.

                Having expressed gratitude for the active participation in the International exhibition, the Speaker of the Mazhilis congratulated on the opening of the OSCE pavilion. At the same time, N. Nigmatulin pointed out that participation of such an authoritative organization as the OSCE in EXPO is an additional demonstration of the high status of the exhibition.

                In turn, Ch. Muttonen underlined the importance of the theme of EXPO-2017 for the future of our planet. According to the Chairman of OSCE PA, working out of the issues of transition to renewable energy sources by Kazakhstan is a model for other countries.

                Ch. Muttonen highly appreciated the achievements of our country gained over the 25 years of Independence, as well as the contribution of Kazakhstan to the OSCE, emphasizing the important role of our country as an intermediary in solving many problematic issues, including Ukraine and Syria.

                In general, the issues of international terrorism, drug trafficking, cyber-attacks were noted during the conversation about modern challenges and threats.

In this connection, N. Nigmatulin focused on the proposal of Kazakhstan to adopt the Code of Conduct regarding global actions against crimes of terrorism and violent extremism. According to the Speaker of the Mazhilis, the adoption of the document could provide an additional impetus to promotion of the issue of adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism.

                N. Nigmatulin also noted that today it is important to find new ways for expanding cooperation in the field of security through intensification of efforts within the framework of the OSCE economic and environmental dimension.

                According to N. Nigmatulin, the Second Preparatory Meeting of the 25th OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum on the theme “Green Economy” as catalyst for sustainable development, security and stability”, held in Astana these days is very significant in the context of our country's chairmanship in the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee in 2017.

                The Chairman of the Mazhilis also noted the importance of inter-parliamentary activities. According to N. Nigmatulin, Kazakhstan, striving for further strengthening of parliamentarism and public institutions, is interested in deepening comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation with the OSCE PA.
