Astana, June 28, House of Mazhilis. Today, the Speaker of the Chamber Nurlan Nigmatulin welcomed the representatives of the mission of observers from the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations headed by Ilyas Umakhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

                Having expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the IPA CIS for participation in observation of the elections of deputies to the Senate, N. Nigmatulin noted that our country pays special attention to open, transparent and honest electoral process in accordance with the international standards.

                Speaker of the Mazhilis also expressed hope for objective evaluation by the CIS mission.

                In turn, I. Umakhanov noted that the current visit of the group of observers is the continuation of the continuity of monitoring missions that have long been practiced within the IPA CIS.

- Elections to the highest legislative body of the country are the most important political event. And in the conditions when by the initiative of the national Leader - the President of Kazakhstan - significant constitutional amendments were introduced, which provided the Parliament with additional powers, the elections are becoming even more important, - I. Umakhanov said.

                The parties also shared their opinions on a wide range of agenda issues, including relations between Kazakhstan and Russia. Attention is also paid to strengthening of interparliamentary cooperation. The most important dialogue platforms are IPA CIS and PA CSTO.
