N.Nigmatulin received the Ambassador of Great Britain


                Astana, February, 15, House of the Mazhilis. Today in the Mazhilis, the Speaker of the Chamber Nurlan Nigmatulin received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Kazakhstan Michael Gifford.

                Prior to discussing topical issues of bilateral cooperation, Nurlan Nigmatulin congratulated the diplomat on starting work in Kazakhstan. At the same time, the Speaker of the Mazhilis stressed that the development of partnership with Great Britain is one of the priority directions of the foreign policy of our country.

As Michael Gifford noted in his turn, that it is a great honor for him to work in our country, which has strong relations with the UK, based on mutual interest and respect.

                Among the promising areas for further bilateral cooperation, the interlocutors called the spheres of economy, education, intensification of the inter-parliamentary dialogue.

Speaking about the main tasks set by the President of Kazakhstan in the January Message, N.Nigmatulin emphasized our country's interest in strengthening partnership in the field of innovative technologies and digitalization.

According to the Chairman of the Mazhilis, the experience of British parliamentarians in matters of legislative support for the development of the digital economy, the provision of digital services, the operation of innovation centers and start-ups is presenting a practical interest. At the same time, N.Nigmatulin noted the importance of holding meetings of relevant committees and inter parliamentary cooperation groups on a regular basis.

During the discussion of the international agenda, Michael Gifford thanked our country for presiding in the UN Security Council, stressing the importance of the speech of the President of Kazakhstan at the meeting of the Security Council.

Nurlan Nigmatulin focused on one of the important events held by Kazakhstan in the framework of his chairmanship in the UN Security Council, the first trip of members of the UN Security Council to Afghanistan, held in January this year.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed confidence in the further strengthening of Kazakh-British relations, including between the parliamentarians of the two countries.
