N. Nigmatulin noted the role of interparliamentary diplomacy in ensuring global and regional security


                Astana, May 25, House of Mazhilis. The representative of Mazhilis Nurlan Nigmatulin speaking at the international roundtable: “Role of parliaments in the legislative support of cooperation and regional security in Central Asia”, noted the role of interparliamentary diplomacy in ensuring global and regional security. 

The event organized by the Mazhilis jointly with the Parliament Assembly of CSTO is held today in Astana under the auspices of the 25 years of signing the Collective Security Treaty and 10 years of PA CSTO.

Having noted that on January 1, 2017, Kazakhstan has become an official non-permanent member of UNSC, N. Nigmatulin pointed out the intention of our country to actively work on promotion of the interests of all the states in the region to ensure its stability and security, to strengthen cooperation, to support its growth and development.

Within this, the Speaker of the Mazhilis focused his attention on the importance of stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan.

- It is impossible to ensure the long-term stability in the region without settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, without integration of this country to the regional processes in Central Asia, - N. Nigmatulin notes.

Speaker of the Mazhilis also underlined the role of parliaments which should resolve the most important tasks in the mechanisms for ensuring national and international security.

- The activities of the Parliament of Kazakhstan are aimed firstly to ensuring the legislative support for the strategic aim of the President of our country Nursultan Nazarbayev to strengthen peace, regional and global security, - N. Nigmatulin noted.

By the Chairman of the Mazhilis, our country was one of the first countries in the region which accepted such significant laws as “On official support of development” and “On peace-making activities”.

At the same time, N. Nigmatulin noted that new global security challenges in the world and in particular in the Central Asian region require special attention of the parliamentarians of CSTO countries.

Within this, the Speaker of the Mazhilis focused the attention of the roundtable participants on the fact that the cooperation of the regional parliamentarians allows ensuring legislative support for the international processes taking into account national interests, by strengthening the independence and security of each state.

As N. Nigmatulin noted, the Parliament of Kazakhstan ratified 38 international treaties within CSTO, 17 – within SCO and 3 international treaties within CICMA.

- Parliamentary diplomacy allows to develop the positions of countries on many international issues, to influence on the content of documents, covering the interests of the parties, - N. Nigmatulin noted.

The work of the roundtable involves parliamentarians of CSTO countries, Afghanistan as well as the international experts and representatives of international organizations.
