THE SPEAKER OF THE MAZHILIS SPEAKER TAKES PART IN EVENTS TO MARK THE 20^TH ANNIVERSARY OF TURKMENISTAN’S NEUTRALITY

Astana, December 14, the House of the Mazhilis. The Chairman of the Mazhilis Kabibulla Dzhakupov participated in the International Conference “Neutrality policy: international cooperation for peace, security and development”, dedicated to the 20^th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality. The heads of states, the heads of parliaments and governments, as well as representatives of numerous international organizations gathered for the high forum, which was held in Ashgabat. Over 80 foreign delegations were in favor of the importance of the principles maintenance for peace, security and development. The Speaker of the Mazhilis speaking at the conference read out a congratulatory message to the Leader of Turkmenistan from the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. “The status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, which became an important factor for stability and security in the region, is highly appreciated by the international community. Kazakhstan attaches particular importance to the expansion of mutually beneficial relations with fraternal Turkmenistan. The multifaceted cooperation between our countries is successfully implemented based on centuries-old ties of good-neighborly relations. At the top level understanding and partnership achieved over the past years contribute new achievements”, - stated in the greetings text. Wishing the welfare and prosperity for the Turkmen people, the Head of our state also expressed the confidence that the friendship and trust relations between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan will continue to develop for the benefit of the two nations. Thanking the Head of our state Nursultan Nazarbayev for the message, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov noted that the development of the Kazakh-Turkmen effective political, economic, cultural and humanitarian relations, joint participation in energy and transport projects today is not only to support each other, but also the support in the international arena. According to the President of Turkmenistan, the two fraternal states are building their cooperation for prospects, by opening up a huge joint potential. The year of 2015 is declared the Year of Neutrality and peace of Turkmenistan on the occasion of the 20^th anniversary of the recognition by the international community of the legal status of the country’s permanent neutrality, in accordance with UN General Assembly resolution. The appropriate document was adopted on December 12, 1995. The fundamental provisions of the positive neutrality model of Turkmenistan are peacefulness, non-interference in the affairs of other states, respect for their sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-participation in international military organizations and treaties.
