Astana, May 25, House of Mazhilis. Chairman of the Mazhilis Nurlan Nigmatulin called parliamentarians of CSTO countries to actively fight against transboundary threats.
The Speaker of Mazhilis shared his opinion with the participants of the international roundtable: “Role of the parliaments in the legislative support of cooperation and regional security in the Central Asia” held in Astana today.
- I think that I will express the common opinion, that only through close cooperation and collective efforts we can achieve significant success in resolving any problems. This is especially important today, when the risks of enforcement of crisis phenomena in our region are still relevant. Within this, almost all modern threats and challenges are transboundary, therefore the effective fighting against such phenomena is impossible without close interaction with the neighboring countries and international partners, - N. Nigmatulin noted.
The Chairman of the Mazhilis mentioned the distribution of religious extremism and terrorism, illegal drug trafficking and illegal migration as the serious threats to security in the region.
- These challenges and threats, which are common for all the republics in the region actualize the need of closer interaction on consolidation of political and economic potential of the countries in the region in order to resolve key problems and ensure stability in the Central Asia, - N. Nigmatulin noted.
As the Speaker of the Mazhilis noted, one of the priorities of Kazakhstan within the membership of the UN Security Council is fighting against extremism and terrorism.
This is expressed in creation of the global antiterrorism network under the UN auspices as well as in formation of the unified list of terrorist organizations on the broad international basis.
Concerning the illegal drugs trafficking, Kazakhstan made significant contribution to creation of the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for Combating Illicit Trafficking of Drugs (CARICC).
Also, by the Speaker of the Mazhilis, Kazakhstan actively participates in the activities of Coordinating Council of the heads of the competent CSTO countries for fighting illegal migration.
- Taking into account the world experience on ensuring the return of illegal migrants, Kazakhstan concluded 14 readmission agreements with the foreign partners. In 2013, we legally approved new mechanism for getting labour permits by the labour migrants from individuals with simultaneous registration and payment of relevant taxes, - N. Nigmatulin said.
The Chairman of the Mazhilis also noted that in order to successfully overcome all threats, the parliamentarians of the countries should combine their efforts to effectively use the possibilities of the interparliamentary cooperation in ensuring security, stability and economic development of the states in the region.
The work of the roundtable organized by the Parliament Assembly of CSTO and the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan involves the parliamentarians, the representatives of the state authorities, international organizations and international experts.
