Astana, April 9, the House of the Mazhilis. The Special Representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for Central Asia, Farah Karimi, visited the Majilis. She was met by the Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security of the Chamber, Aigul Kuspan, together with deputies Yulia Kuchinskaya and Azhar Sagandikova.

In her welcoming speech, Aigul Kuspan noted that Kazakhstan traditionally attaches great importance to practical cooperation with the OSCE and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

– We highly appreciate your attention to solving the problems of climate change. It is really important for us to improve the joint management of water resources and promote affordable clean energy resources. We hope for effective cooperation with the OSCE PA to ensure a preventive response to environmental threats in Central Asia," Aigul Kuspan said.

The head of the committee also said that abnormal floods are occurring in Kazakhstan, in connection with which most of the parliamentarians went to the affected regions to control the situation.

In turn, Farah Karimi expressed words of support to Kazakhstanis in the fight against the natural disaster. She noted that these events demonstrate the importance of the climate change issues being discussed today.

In addition, Farah Karimi stressed in her speech that the Kazakh delegation is always actively involved in the activities of the OSCE PA, including in election observation missions.

Along with the majilismen, Deputy of the Senate Ainur Argynbekova and Deputy Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Daniyar Seidaliev took part in the meeting from the Kazakh side. As part of the guest delegation, the Deputy Chairman of the OSCE PA, the Special Representative on Climate Change, Pere Pons, as well as parliamentarians from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan also arrived in Astana.
